Ghana COVID Audit Omission Scandal Escalates With GH¢299m Fumigation Gap and Legal Breach Claims
Investigative journalist Manasseh Awuni has reported that the Auditor-General's COVID-19 report recorded GH¢96 million in fumigation spending while Local Government records show the actual figure was GH¢299 million, with the gap left out of the official audit. MP Dafeamekpor has described the discrepancy as the greatest public finance scandal of Ghana's Fourth Republic, called for arrests, and argued the omission may constitute a breach of the Audit Service Act. Dafeamekpor has also raised questions about the Auditor-General's own stated audit objective in relation to the omission of Local Government spending.
