MTN Ghana Expands North with 80 New Sites in $1.1B Investment
MTN Ghana is investing $1.1B to expand digital inclusion and network infrastructure across Ghana, including underserved northern regions.
MTN Ghana is adding 80 new network sites across the five regions of the north as part of its stated $1.1 billion investment programme. The expansion materially extends connectivity to underserved northern communities. Separately, reporting has quantified MTN Ghana's revenue and digital economy contribution, providing a sector benchmark for the operator's economic footprint.
MTN North: 80 sites won't matter if no one can afford to use them
MTN's northern rollout is real infrastructure in places that have genuinely needed it — 38 sites in the Northern Region alone, in communities where connectivity has been thin for years.
But the same source notes that affordability and digital literacy "remain challenges." A site going up doesn't put a smartphone in a farmer's hand or mobile money in a market woman's wallet.
The 44.4% growth in MoMo transaction value this year shows what connected, equipped users can do. The northern build only joins that story if the device access and the skills follow the signal.
