Sam George Announces National Data Exchange Hub for 48 Public Registries
Communications Minister Sam George has formally announced a national data exchange hub that will connect 48 public registries, extending the AI-driven planning initiative he outlined on 18 October. George also issued a specific caution on health data agreements, warning that the terms under which such agreements are signed require careful scrutiny.
Data Hub: the health data warning is the real story here
Connecting 48 registries so a developer queries one endpoint instead of 48 is genuinely useful infrastructure — the announcement advances what Sam George outlined last week.
But the more important thing he said is about health data specifically. His argument is pointed: when a US tech company contractually promises you data sovereignty, the US CLOUD Act can override that promise without the company's consent. Ghana just rejected a $109m health compact partly on this basis.
So the hub creates a single point where Ghana's most sensitive records become accessible. The question of who can access that point, under whose laws, isn't secondary — it's the whole thing.
