Ghana's Digital Economy Drives 6% GDP Growth in Q2 2026
Ghana's ICT sector has been identified as a key driver of 6% GDP growth recorded in Q2 2026, providing an ecosystem-level data point on the digital economy's contribution to national output. The figure sits alongside Databank Research's projection, reported on 10 September, that full-year 2026 growth will exceed 6.5%.
Ghana ICT: double-digit growth three years running is a structural shift, not a spike
ICT growing at 30.9 per cent year-on-year — up from 21.3 per cent the year before — and doing so for twelve consecutive quarters is not a good run. It is a pattern.
The Government Statistician's own framing is striking: the tech sector drove nearly half of all economic expansion in Q2 2026. That is a number that reframes what Ghana's economy actually is.
But the jobs question sits uncomfortably next to it. If the sector leading Ghana's growth is not yet pulling large numbers of people into formal work, the ecosystem's real challenge is turning a strong headline into broad opportunity — not just for founders and investors, but for the engineers, operators and communities that make the growth legible on the ground.
