Cash Remains Dominant Across Africa Despite Mobile Money Growth

A new Africa-wide report finds that cash remains the dominant transaction medium across the continent despite the rapid growth of mobile money platforms. The findings carry direct relevance to Ghana's MoMo ecosystem and to fintech operators targeting financial inclusion in a market where the Bank of Ghana's own August 2026 data showed currency held outside banks rising 4%.
