Spiro Launches 100 E-Bikes and Battery-Swap Network in Ghana
Kenya-based Spiro has rolled out its first 100 e-bikes in Ghana alongside a battery-swap network, marking the first major e-mobility operator entry into the Ghanaian market. The Ghana launch is part of Spiro's continuing pan-African expansion.
Spiro in Ghana: 100 bikes is a test, not a launch
156,000 motorcycles across seven countries, 2,500 swap stations, 57 million battery exchanges — and Ghana gets 100 bikes to start.
That gap is deliberate. Spiro has watched what happened in Rwanda versus Nigeria: clear policy and a cooperating government got 22,000 units deployed; friction kept Nigeria at a fraction of that. Ghana is getting a careful probe, not a commitment.
The real question for Ghanaian policymakers isn't whether Spiro is serious — its $270 million raise suggests it is. It's whether Ghana will make itself easy enough to operate in that those 100 bikes become 10,000.
