Prudential Bank putting PAPSS — the pan-African payment system that lets people send money across borders in local currencies, bypassing the US dollar entirely — on its mobile app is a genuinely useful move.
But the infrastructure being live and the infrastructure being used are two very different things.
PAPSS connects over 180 banks across 21 countries. The question isn't whether the plumbing exists — it does. It's whether a Ghanaian trader paying a supplier in Côte d'Ivoire will actually find this easier than the workarounds they already rely on.
