Accra floods cause major infrastructure disruption across the city
Recurring flooding is exposing Ghana's infrastructure as critically unfit for current and future urban, agricultural, and economic demands.
Severe flooding has submerged roads and disrupted electricity supply across Accra, bringing the city to a near standstill. Ghana's EPA has linked plastic pollution and blocked waterways to the worsening flood conditions, while President Mahama has acknowledged the rainfall as among the highest recorded in several years and attributed the damage to drainage and planning failures. Nine people have been reported missing after flooding in Awutu Senya East, and casualty reports have emerged from other affected communities near Accra.
