Google has opened applications for its Africa Applied AI Lab, based in Accra, Ghana. The lab represents a direct AI infrastructure and founder opportunity for Ghana's technology ecosystem.
Google's AI Lab: Accra gets the address, but who gets the keys?
The lab is physically here — based at the Accra AI Community Centre, pairing local founders directly with Google engineers, with early access to models most African builders can't get near. That's real.
But the programme ends with a demo day pitching to Googlers and investors. The question is whether that funnel builds companies that stay rooted in Accra, or simply scouts the continent's best AI talent toward a London office or a Silicon Valley incorporation.
